Ready to go

Hi Everyone

Yes it’s that time of year again – the Krafts are off on another adventure.

We take off Saturday morning (11.40am) – quite a civilized hour for a change!

In summary here is what we are doing:
Flying to Cambodia via an overnight stop in Singapore. We are part of a 10-member team – all from South Australia. We spend a couple of nights in the capital Phnom Penh before heading North to Preah Vihear province. While in Phnom Penh, we hope to go and visit the community where we helped build a house in 2009 with Habitat for Humanity.

We will spend 6 days in the town of Tbeng Meanchey working with the students of a girls hostel. This is the same place we went to in 2008.The Plas Prai Girls Hostel provides accommodation for poor students from remote provincial areas so that they can complete their secondary education. If they are successful in gaining access to tertiary education, where funds permit we support them to graduate and return to their communities as nurses, teachers and maybe one day doctors. There is a dormitory there which houses 38 students.  A houseparent lives on site to supervise and assist the students, and English language tuition is provided and other educational support.
Bibles studies will be run while we are there and we will assist in whatever way we can, e.g. worship.music singing, and doing craft activities with the girls (and we may even be doing some catering!). There is also some maintenance needed on the buildings, so I think some painting will be on the agenda. Of course time spent interacting with the girls and giving them first hand practice of their English language skills is invaluable.

A group of girls will be taken on a short “holiday” to Siem Reap, giving them an opportunity to experience life outside of their rural lifestyle, see a big city and stay in a hotel, and probably see a swimming pool for the first time in their life!

After that, we fly to Hanoi in Vietnam for a holiday ourselves. We have a few days in and around Hanoi – including Sapa and Halong Bay. Then fly south for a few days in Hue and Hoi An before returning to Aus on 15th July.

I don’t expect my Optus mobile to work in Cambodia, but should be OK in Vietnam. However internet access should be readily available most of the time and we will keep you updated with blogs.
We will check our regular email regularly as we are able, and of course Facebook!!.
